Trucks on an unpaved road illustrating humanitarian transport in Africa

KHARTOUM, 5 October 2026 — The United Nations World Food Programme has strongly condemned an aerial attack on two contracted food-aid trucks in South Kordofan, Sudan, which killed one driver.

According to WFP, the clearly marked humanitarian vehicles were travelling from Dilling to Kadugli when they were struck in the early hours of 3 October. The agency continued to assess damage to the food cargo.

WFP called for a prompt and impartial investigation and said those responsible for any violations must be held accountable. It offered condolences to the driver’s relatives, friends and colleagues.

The fatal strike occurred only one day after another WFP truck hit an explosive device in Dilling following a delivery of lifesaving assistance.

The agency reminded all parties that international humanitarian law requires protection for civilians, civilian infrastructure, aid workers and humanitarian supplies, together with safe and unimpeded access.

Repeated attacks on relief transport threaten millions of people already confronting hunger and displacement. WFP said it would continue delivering assistance across Sudan despite the increasingly dangerous environment.

The incident was verified using WFP’s official statement, the United Nations’ report and independent coverage confirming the driver’s death, the convoy’s route and the trucks’ humanitarian markings.
