9 October 2026 — UN Secretary-General António Guterres used his World Post Day message to highlight postal networks as providers of essential services and personal connections, extending well beyond mail delivery.
In the message published by the United Nations in India, he cited a global network of more than 660,000 offices and 4.6 million staff.
This year’s theme, “One postal network, infinite possibilities”, focuses attention on how postal services support participation in economic and social life.
Guterres pointed to examples including digital banking, access to virtual healthcare, small businesses reaching overseas markets and personal contact with older people.
He emphasised the value of services delivered face to face, describing postal networks as a source of human connection in an increasingly digital society.
The Secretary-General also honoured postal workers and the Universal Postal Union, highlighting international cooperation that keeps messages, goods and services moving during emergencies and disasters.
